NASA has announced its plans to cover the departure of Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus spacecraft from the International Space Station (ISS) on Friday, March 28, 2025. The uncrewed cargo vessel, which delivered over 8,200 pounds of supplies and equipment to the orbiting laboratory, is set to undock after completing its 21st commercial resupply mission for NASA.
Live coverage of the undocking and departure will begin at 6:30 a.m. EDT on NASA+, with the actual release from the station’s Canadarm2 robotic arm scheduled for 6:55 a.m. NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers will oversee Cygnus’ systems as it departs from the Unity module’s Earth-facing port.
Following its departure, Cygnus will remain in orbit until Sunday, March 30, when it will be commanded to deorbit. Packed with trash from the ISS crew, the spacecraft will safely burn up upon re-entering Earth’s atmosphere.
This mission began on August 6, 2024, when Cygnus launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The successful completion of this resupply mission underscores the ongoing collaboration between NASA and commercial partners in supporting the ISS and its scientific endeavors.
